Welcome to my blog.

I use it to think out loud about things I find interesting. The topics I blog about typically fall into one of five categories:

  • Newsmakers: The people, events and issues currently making news.
  • Big Ideas and Big Thinkers: This is where I comment on the idea of people I admire who, to quote Daniel Burnham, make no small plans.
  • Leadership Lessons: I’m a student of leadership and this is where I talk about a variety of leadership topics.
  • Sports: I don’t comment on sports so much as I discuss things leaders can learn from the world of sports.
  • Mike’s Musings: This section is reserved for stuff, anything I find interesting can find a home here.

I want my blogs to be thought provoking and (sometimes) humorous. If anything I’ve written gets your attention and you’d like to comment; I’d love to hear from you.

All the best,

The Leadership Chops to be POTUS

Sunday, September 11th, 2016 | By: Mike Donahue

I listened to the Diane Rehm Show on NPR as I drove to the airport on August 26. The journalists on the show held points of view on the left and right of the political spectrum, one side damning The Donald while praising Hillary and the other side reflectively taking the opposite point of view in their discussion. The panelists were highly regarded journalists working for some of America’s best-known…
