Welcome to my blog.

I use it to think out loud about things I find interesting. The topics I blog about typically fall into one of five categories:

  • Newsmakers: The people, events and issues currently making news.
  • Big Ideas and Big Thinkers: This is where I comment on the idea of people I admire who, to quote Daniel Burnham, make no small plans.
  • Leadership Lessons: I’m a student of leadership and this is where I talk about a variety of leadership topics.
  • Sports: I don’t comment on sports so much as I discuss things leaders can learn from the world of sports.
  • Mike’s Musings: This section is reserved for stuff, anything I find interesting can find a home here.

I want my blogs to be thought provoking and (sometimes) humorous. If anything I’ve written gets your attention and you’d like to comment; I’d love to hear from you.

All the best,
Mike

His message said, “I hope you can take some time out of your busy schedule to meet with me for half an hour.” As I listened, I wondered if he actually thought I was busy or if that was just one of those perfunctory things…

In it, she told the story of a conversation Clare Boothe Luce had with John F. Kennedy in 1962. She told him, “A great man is one sentence.” She meant that the impact…
