I collect stuff; I have a hard drive full of articles, poems, quotes and other musings. Over the weekend, I went through my collection of quotes; the majority comes from books I’ve read and TEC/Vistage speakers who addressed my peer coaching groups in the decade I was a member of that tribe. I’ve referred to a good number of them in my coaching practice to make a point. Here’s a half dozen of my favorites; I credited the source where ever possible.
- “You get the behavior you reward.” Pat Murray
- “You know before you know, of course. Each of us is equipped with exquisite calibration that allows us to sense when there’s a storm brewing.” Susan Scott
- “If you hire small people, your company will become a company of dwarfs.” David Ogilvie
- “If you pit a good performer against a bad system, the system will win every time.”
- “A lousy boss is one who lacks candor, thinks it’s unkind to tell an employee what they’re doing wrong and pays more attention to budgets than to dreams.” Jack Welch
- “To keep misfits in jobs they cannot do is not being kind, it’s being cruel.” Peter Drucker
